Role Summary

The Standards Managing Pilot is, together with the senior standards pilot, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Flight Standards operational oversight programme (OOP) and LOSA programme. This position is accountable to the Director Flight Standards.

 

The primary objective of the operational oversight programme is to ensure consistent application of Company procedures to maintain the highest flight proficiency and operational standards, supported by objective data and timely feedback to central flight standards.

 

To achieve this, the SMP will work closely with the senior standards pilot, where mutual support is essential to achieve the goals and objectives of the oversight programmes.

 

The role's focus is to manage and conduct standards assessments, review assessments, support LOSA, act as a subject-matter expert, and maintain close relationships with all members of the Flight Standards team.

Further to act as a key representative and ambassador for Flight Standards when visiting local business units, bases, and when interacting with the various external stakeholders (e.g. customers, industry organisations).

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Oversight programmes:
    • Managing the worldwide standards assessment oversight programme:
    • Planning and coordinating base visits
    • Conducting assessments
    • Compiling assessment reports in a digital dashboard format and providing feedback to AOCs and FS team
    • Help facilitate the implementation, in conjunction with local AOC post-holders and FS team, any recommendations made in the digital dashboard (e.g. manual amendments with CTP)
    • Assist the LOSA program manager with the Continuous LOSA program and able to carry out LOSA at abases iaw CHC LOSA policies when required.
    • Assist the LOSA programme manager with the continuous LOSA programme and able to carry out LOSA at bases in accordance with CHC LOSA policies when required

Operations

  • Base assessments:
    • Assessing and monitoring the proficiency of flight crew on each aircraft type with particular emphasis on flight safety, compliance, and standardisation across all CHC operations (including those where CHC pilots are employed under alternate operational / ownership structures such as JV and partnership)
    • During the assessments, the SMP should sample and document sufficient flights with various crew to make a proper assessment of operational compliance assurance
    • During base assessments, review the accuracy and revision status, of manuals, training programmes, qualification management system, EFB application, safety and compliance matters, maintenance-related matters, and unwritten ground rules that have been developed that deviate from the norm
    • Provide feedback to local MFO, MCT and Central Flight Standards

 

Training assessments:

  • Assessing and monitoring Company training and simulator training events to ensure alignment with both Company standards and the OMD training methodologies.
  • Make recommendations to HoFT for any opportunities to further drive standardisation
  • Provide feedback to local MFO, MCT, Head of Training, and Central Flight Standards

 

Other:

  • Travel overseas is required (up to 50% of the role)
  • May be assigned other duties

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

Required Qualifications:

Essential

  • Must be a qualified pilot able to fly IOGP compliant crew change operations or able to fly as a SAR pilot (Multi-Pilot, NVIS)
  • ATPL H + IR, class 1 medical
  • At least 2 years of management experience

 

Desirable

  • Training Experience
  • SAR and/or EMS experience

 

Skills/Experience: 

  • Effective leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to influence all internal stakeholders and external bodies recognising cultural, legal and regional diversity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of key business drivers from both an operational and commercial perspective
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills with an ability to produce results.

  • Strong Customer Service Orientation
  • Able to travel, at times with short notice to all CHC bases and training loca
