This role is a key member of the CHC Den Helder Leadership Team, responsible for providing business leadership and overall management of CHC flight operations. This includes driving national implementation and adherence to CHC global harmonized flight operations standards and procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving departmental efficiencies. The role involves active participation in policy development, manpower planning, and operational issue resolution.   
 

This role has a dual reporting line:

  • Reports to the local Operations Director for local business responsibilities and a member of the business units management team. Nominated Person responsible for Flight Operations to the local Regulator.
  • Reports to the Director Flight Standards for global flight standards responsibilities and a member of the global flight standards team.


This role is a comprehensive position that requires a wide range of skills, including leadership, communication, international collaboration and a strong understanding of flight operations.
 
Travel is required, and the MFO may be assigned other duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES to Operations Director / Accountable Manager

  • Leadership: Member of the CHC Den Helder Leadership Team, provide business leadership and overall management of the CHC flight operations.
  • Legal Accountability: Assume legal accountability for the safe conduct of flight operations within operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all Company operations are conducted within the terms of the air operator’s certificate and in accordance with current CAA regulations, operations manuals, and base operating procedures. You will also liaise with the Regulator and ensure CHC compliance with all appropriate rules and CAA regulations.
  • Efficiency: Drive departmental efficiencies in the flight ops within the policies and standards set by Flight Standards. This includes structure, cost management, headcount, rosters, and working practices.
  • Manpower Planning: Accountable for department manpower planning and implementation to deliver customer contract requirements.
  • Pilot and Aircrew Groups Liaison: Act as the prime point of contact for pilot and aircrew groups, including union labour negotiations, discipline, and grievances.
  • Succession Planning: Implement strong succession plans for all key appointments in CHC flight ops and training.
  • Pilot Selection: Have the final responsibility (in consultation with MCT) for the selection of pilots hired and other internal appointments and promotions of crew.
  • Operational Issues Resolution: Be an active participant in the Occurrence Review Boards in resolving operational issues.
  • Customer Focus: Retain a close customer focus on all flight operations matters and support Sales/Commercial team as required with proposals including tender preparation.
  • Business Planning: Be an active contributor to the business planning and budgeting processes, educating the direct report teams on the desired results and periodically assess the performance versus actual, identify any deviations and measures to address this effectively.
  • Safety Management: Adhere to all SMS accountabilities as determined in the CHC Safety Management Manual.
  • Travel: Travel overseas and interstate is required.
  • Duties: Adhere to all accountabilities, responsibilities and duties as defined by the Operating Manuals, Safety Management Manual, and Flight Standards Procedures Manual.
  • Line Check: Achieve and retain a valid line check on a CHC AW139 aircraft. 
  • Other Duties: You may be assigned other duties as needed.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES to Director Flight Standards 

  • Drive FS Implementation: Responsible for driving the national implementation and adherence of the CHC harmonized flight operations standards and procedures within CHC Den Helder.
  • Policy and Procedures Development: Active contributor to the CHC Flight Standards team, you will participate in policy and procedures development and provide valuable feedback.
  • Regulatory and Operational Changes: Ensure that CHC Flight Standards is informed and consulted on any regulatory or operational changes.
  • Implementation and Maintenance of Directives: Responsible for implementing and maintaining Flight Standards directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Meeting KPIs: Responsible for meeting Flight Standards KPIs and actively contribute to meet the G&O set by the DFS, Operational Oversight Program, LOSA, and FDM policies and procedures.
  • Support the ‘One-CHC’ Concept: Support the ‘One-CHC’ concept, promoting harmonisation, standardisation and collaboration across the organization.
  • FDM and Flight Compliance Program: In collaboration with Flight Standards and Safety & Quality, take active ownership of CHC FDM and flight compliance program in accordance with the global FDM Policy and Procedures.
  • Other Duties: You may be assigned other duties as needed.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

Required Qualifications:

Essential

  • Meet the requirements for Flight Ops post holder  
  • Must be IOGP compliant for Captain O&G operations
  • Have a valid EASA ATPL H + IR

 

Desirable

  • Valid type rating on a CHC AW139 aircraft type

 

Skills/Experience:

  • At least 5 years aviation Management experience including time in helicopter sector.
  • Effective leadership and management skills, ability to mentor and drive a high performing team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to influence all internal stakeholders and external bodies recognising cultural, legal and regional diversity
  • Comprehensive understanding of key business drivers from both an operational and commercial perspective
  • Highly effective problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills with an ability to produce results
  • Able to travel, at times with short notice, overseas and interstate as well as to all CHC bases and training locations
